Only their bodies died. You are not your body. You are what is called your soul. The Bible calls it your Temple. You do not have a soul, you are your soul. You live in your body. When your body dies, you (your soul) goes to a place waiting for the resurrection, and final judgement. Some call this place hell. It has two components, Abraham's bosom and torment. After judgement, each person is granted either eternal life or eternal death. No one is going to hell to be punished for all eternity, like most believe. There are many Bible verses that explain this: Malachi 4:1 "For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of Hosts, Jn 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Notice it doesn't say everyone will be granted eternal life, just in different places. It says some will perish, cease to exist. Some believe all have an immortal souls, but that is not the case. Matt 10:28 "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." If everyone has an immortal soul, how can it be destroyed? The final destination of all humans will be either being granted eternal life on a new earth. Others will be thrown into the lake of fire and burned up. Rev 20:15 "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Rev 21:1 "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea." vs 3 "And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God." You see, no one is going to heaven to be with God, He is coming to earth to live with us. This is what the Bible teaches, and is what I believe. You can debate with me all you want about this, but it is not me you are debating, it is the Bible. You can believe what ever you want, you have freedom of choice, as do I. I choose to believe what it says in the Bible.
